Ever since the Singapore Flyer saga last year, we have been putting off our visit to the Singapore Flyer. The phobia of being stranded in mid air for hours and the thought of being lower-downed to safety from 165m above sea level is definitely not amusing.

However, we decided to give it a try this week. I expected the Singapore Flyer to be a ghost town after the incident but we were pretty surprised to see a healthy crowd (both tourists and locals) at the ticketing booth.

It actually felt rather odd to be a tourist in my home country. The 30 minutes ride crawled on slowly at first, but it was quite a breath-taking sight when we reached the highest point. I've never seen Singapore from that perspective. We have a beautiful country indeed. The night sky was vibrantly lit up by the sky-scrapers, the Fullerton Hotel, the iconic Esplanade and even the lights from the residential buildings at the outskirts of town could be clearly seen. Though it wasn't an experience to rave about, we will definitely re-visit the Singapore Flyer in a few years time with our daughter. By then, the much anticipated Integrated Resort will be bustling with life and that should change the night sky quite a bit.

We had our photo taken by a photographer and they got it super-imposed onto the image of the Singapore Flyer. It was very well-taken. However, the price ($18 for the first photo, $15 for subsequent photos) didn't go down very well with us! The husband asked if I would consider buying if the photo was taken with our daughter. Hmm… unlikely I guess. But on second thoughts… perhaps as evidence to our daughter that she has been there, done that, I may just relent.
